The article focuses on state taxes, which gives a team like the Jags an advantage because the State of Florida does not have a State Income Tax. This can amount to 3 to 4 Mil over the life of the contract.

 

More importantly, and this is what I wish to stress here is the advantage the Jags have in structuring a deal that gives Suh more money upfront.

 

With 68 Mil of cap space the Jags can afford to offer a contract where Suh gets 30 Mil his first year and perhaps 25 the next to guranteee him 55 Mil over the first two years.

 

Not many teams can afford to do that and this is the biggest card the Jags have to make this deal happen.
