Chief mentioned something I was thinking about earlier.

 

The folks on the board constantly hammered Gene Smith for his focus on trying to find quality character guys.  They griped about it repeatedly until the team actually went and drafted a guy with known character issues last year.  Now these same people are in here hammering away because of his lack of character. 

 

Personally, I'm just done with Blackmon.  I don't pity him because of his problems.  He's an adult fully capable of making his own decisions.  He's chosen the wrong path each time it's been presented to him.  Yes, I understand that's the nature of addiction, but with all of the resources at his fingertips as an NFL player, he's been able to get whatever help he needs to deal with it, and he's gone the other way.  He's been given repeated opportunities by the team to get back on track, and in each instance he's said the right thing and reportedly done everything that was asked of him only to turn around and do it again. 

 

Clearly, he has problems that are far bigger than football, and for that I hope he gets the help he needs to overcome this.  But, he's now crapped on this team enough times while teasing the fans with his abilities.  At this point, I honestly don't care what the team does.  For all the talent he's squandering, he's got a 10 cent head. 

 

I went out to dinner with friends tonight, and for the first time in 20 years I had to think twice about wearing any Jaguar apparel.  This has been a rough year on the field, but that's never been an issue.  What Blackmon has now done embarrasses me as a fan of this franchise.  I defended him in the past, but I'm done with it.  It really doesn't matter how talented he is as an athlete if his most prominent quality is his ability to violate the league rules.  I never thought he was terribly bright, but I at least figured he'd be smart enough to recognize the fact that he's jeopardizing his career.
