While it would be nice to have a premier running back, the position isn't of the value it once was given that the league has become more pass oriented. Murray is 27, and while that means he is at his peak (age wise) it also means that he is at the point for running backs where typically they will soon start to slow down. It is also true that while at Dallas, he was running behind what is/was arguably the best offensive line in the NFL. Murray was certainly a beneficiary of this, as well as the high number of carries he got. The down side of it is that he will no longer have the best o-line in the NFL in front of him and the number of carries he had in Dallas may well have put excessive wear on him.

 

Taking all this into consideration, along with the enormous contract he is/was seeking, and Dave Caldwell did well to pass on him. There are good running backs in the up-coming draft who don't have the mileage and wear that Murray already has and are to be gotten for far, far, less money.

 

Don't get me wrong... I think Murray is a great running back, but he is now on the outside edge of his prime as a running back and the cowboys all but 'ran his wheels off' last season. Given those perimeters, I don't think he is worth what he wanted and the eagles over paid for him. We'll see.
