Maybe he would rather make it to 40 as a man with no issues with memory loss, healthy knees, the abilty to play with his kids and an otherwise clean bill of health vs being a 40 year old man who could barely walk, on numerous medications, and unable to remember what he had for dinner last night with "millions" in the bank.


I bet if you would ask any regular Joe currently sitting in Baptist Medical being told that they have some form of terminal illness if they would they rather have a clean bill of health or "millions" in the bank the vast majority would rather have their health.

 

That's the thing.  There were no indications he was going to have any long-term health problems.  He consulted with researchers and after learning that he has a higher risk of developing long-term injuries, he quit.  The vast majority of former players are healthy and living normal lives - you only hear about the horror stories.
