The majority of adults in this country think they would prefer a secular US... that's part of the reason why Obama is president. However, to claim that the political/religion rules on this forum make it hard for a 'legitimate' discussion is bogus. Both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America contains references to a Creator. Our Pledge of Allegiance says "one nation under God". Words sir, have meaning; and the reference to 'one nation under God' is a recognition that this nation (as is true also of every nation) is subservient to God and that we recognize ourselves as such. It has been our national identity for a long time. To the degree that we no longer acknowledge this fact, we will sink into obscurity; as has every other 'great' nation that failed to acknowledge God.

 

God has chosen only one nation of people whom He supernaturally sustains; and it isn't the United States of America. We stand or fall by our faithfulness to Him and our support of His covenant people Israel. You may not like this, but it doesn't alter the truth of it. 

 

The truth is... our constitution was meant to govern a people who have respect for God; it was never intended to govern a secular society.
