NFL Suspends Blackout Policy for 2015
|
Quote:I just don't subscribe to the mindset that it's going to be as significant as some folks seem to think. Of course there will be some drop, but for most markets, it won't even be noticed. For teams like the Jaguars, it's all about the game day experience and what the team is doing to keep people in the stadium knowing the product on the field isn't exactly setting the world on fire. Teams that would be at risk would do well to reach out to the Jaguars to get a feel for what they're doing to keep fans involved. I have a completely different take on this. I believe the owners still maintain that the blackout policy helps attendance. Today's move was a response to the FCC's assertion that it doesn't. Coming off a year in which there were no blackouts, it seems like a great time to put it to the test. If attendance figures dwindle, the owners would have some ammo to use against the FCC. To me, that's what this is really about. Considering the owners are smarter than anybody in the government, it's hard for me to believe they would just capitulate. |
