Jamie Dukes and Colleen Wolfe of NFL Network: Not big fans of Dave Caldwell or his moves as Jags GM

(This post was last modified: 03-27-2015, 09:20 AM by MalabarJag.)

Quote:I really don't know why I'm diving into this den of dregs...but here goes:

Monroe was quoted, more than once, as being ready to move on when he was a FA. There is strong speculation that Daryl Smith was the same, ready to move on and spend his last few years on a contender. Dave "letting them go" as if he could just snap his fingers and keep them is quite a misnomer. Also, Monroe was a little below average when we traded him, good for the rest of that year, and then very bad again last year. If we had kept him everyone would be whining for him to get the boot even worse than you are for Joeckel.

Knighton was NOT good as a Jaguar. -20 PFF grade while he was here. Regardless of what you think about PFF, they aren't wrong by that much. He was quite good once he got to Denver, but it is unlikely that transformation would have happened if he had stayed in Jax.

Joeckel > Monroe, Telvin > Daryl for the future, Marks >>>>> Knighton while in Jax. I don't get the problem.

Monroe was also quoted as wanting to stay in Jax. Such quotes are meaningless, and most if not all of the players the Jags let go would have stayed for the contracts they eventually received.

Using Knighton's 2012 grade is spin worthy of the most partisan political analyst. He had a down year in 2012 after not being able to practice all offseason because of his eye injury. Every other year he had/has been one of the best 1-T DTs.

Since you don't get the problem:

Monroe hasn't had a good 2013/2014, but still was better than Joeckel. The Ravens also run a zone-blocking scheme, so his play there is comparable to what it would have been here had he stayed.

Daryl Smith would have been the OLB last year and moved to the middle after Poz was injured. He was not in competition with Telvin for playing time.

Knighton was better than Miller (he did NOT play the same position as Marks, so that comparison is just more nonsense) both years, and much better than Miller in 2013. His contract with Denver was the same as Miller's was here.

The biggest problem IMO is the failure to sign Andre Smith in 2013. He's one of the best RTs, would have given Bortles solid protection last year, and would be much better than Parnell going forward.

"Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
