Blackmon played at Oklahoma right? That school was too big for Gene to waste his time sending a scout there for Blackmon. After all the Colorado school of mines had gems that he needed to dig up.

That said, I hope Blackmon beats his alcoholism and the odds and comes back for a long productive career with us.
