Quick Tack Trade Poll: Rivers to tacks

#5

Quote:I'm not sure they'd agree to either deal without first throwing in at least another draft pick. I don't think San Diego or Chicago can honestly tell Tennessee that they should pick up their older QBs while they draft a newer younger QB and only switch positions. Maybe if they throw in a 2nd or 3rd.

Otherwise, I hope they just pick up Mariota or Winston. I'm not a huge fan of either one, so I'm not so sure that they'll give them what we've seen from Rivers even if it's only for a few years.

If they trade, I hope they trade with Chicago. We'll at least get a few INTs out of it.
I didn't mean to imply those terms to be all inclusive.  I just wanted to hit the main highlights of the deal for the purposes of the discussion.

To me, each proposition has its pros and cons.

If they dealt with San Diego, they'd get an experienced, proven NFL QB, but a much lower first round pick/

If they dealt with Chicago, they'd get a younger, less talented QB than Rivers along with a higher draft pick just outside of the top 6 or so elite players in this draft.

THen if they stood pat, they'd have their choice of players minus one (presumably Winston), but they'd have no proven player, especially at QB, and no extra picks that came with any trade down.

I think I'd rather them take the Chicago deal or no deal, speaking as a Jaguars fan.

Cutler, even in the short term, wouldn't really solidify their QB position.  He would be a drain on their salary cap, and they would likely miss out on most of the elite talent at the top of this draft.  Cutler's presence would likely hinder Mettenberger's development, and Tennessee would be right back where they are now in another year or two.

I think if they did nothing it would be preferable to taking the SD deal.  At least with Rivers, they could have a good, if not elite QB for 3-4 years. plus the extra picks that would come with a trade down.  In this deep WR class, the Tacks could end up with some good receivers and a strong passing attack for a few years.  If they did nothing, they'd get no extra picks, and they'd gamble on Mettenberger.  If Mettenberger is legit, then they don't get the extra picks to stockpile talent around him.  If he isn't legit, then they would likely have either passed up a QB at 2, prolonging their misery at QB, or they take Mariota at 2, who I think at minimum would take a long time to develop into a legit NFL QB.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
