At no point is anyone advocating having bad offensive lines... the question is whether a premium left tackle is vital?

Is it more important to have an all-pro LT but also have 2 horrible players on your O-line?  Would you rather have that than 5 average players on the O-line?  I don't know, not sure.  That's why the question has been raised.

 

There have been recent examples of QBs performing well despite having a horrible O-line.  There has also been instances where a bad O-line cripples the entire offense.   I think that I would rather have 5 average offensive lineman than Tony Boselli if he has to line up next to Will freaking Rackley and the 35 year old Meester's of this world.

 

LT usually cover the QB's blindside, if he's dropping back to pass more, then the LT is even more important.

 

So in response to the original question you got all offended over, YES, it is still a premium position and very important to have a premium LT. A Premium LT doesn't mean the guy was drafted in the top 10 picks of the 1st round, it means he plays at a high level. So the answer to your question is still NO, Good QB's do not just require "average" olines, they need the extra time quality lines give them to deliver the ball.
