I'd take an additional high 2nd round pick because I don't think there is much of a difference in talent between #3 and #8

 

That is solid thinking.   The question is, which do you prefer, the #3 pick, or pick #8 plus pick #42?    There is a real good chance you could see someone fall to pick #8 that you would have no problem picking at pick #3.   OR, if you really want someone like Todd Gurley, or Kevin White, and you think pick #3 is too early, then pick #8 plus pick #42 is very preferable.   Because you get the guy you wanted anyway plus pick #42. 

 

Why stand on principle and say moving from pick #8 to pick #3 should be worth more than pick #42?   The correct question is, what is preferable to you, in your particular situation, in this draft.
