Secondly, I would never draft a RB with the 3rd pick unless they were a truly game changing back, like AD, CJ Spiller, McFadden (yea I know he is injury prone), Stephen Jackson,  LT, Jamal Lewis, Edge, etc etc. 

 

 

In other words, you would break out your crystal ball on draft day and see how potential draft picks are going to look 3-4 years into their NFL careers?

 

One of the few things Bill Polian ever said that I happen to agree with is that early round draft picks are a huge gamble.  An elite college player does not always translate to an elite NFL player.  In 2012, Trent Richardson WAS considered a game changer, which is why Cleveland traded up to get him.

 

Now that the Colts have basically (re)drafted him with their 2014 first round draft pick, we will see how he does in a backfield in which he is sharing the load with two (plus) other guys.  Ahmad Bradshaw had a great day against the 49ers.  Maybe next week, it will be Richardson's turn.  Or Brown's turn.  Who knows?
