Jonathan Martin, OT, Miami Dolphins
|
I've said things to my friends that many here (and elsewhere) would consider offensive or "hateful". They've said those things to me, too. No one cares because we're all friends.
What are we talking about here? Bullies? Racism? Both? Are we talking about it because Incognito is white and Martin is black? Are we to assume that it would, otherwise, be OK to say had Incognito been black? Or, is this an issue that the NFL should address despite the colors of their skin? Ultimately, if the Dolphins' locker room promotes this atmosphere and Incognito took advantage of it and utilized it as many others have, then how can we single-out Incognito for something that his teammates have deemed acceptable? People have already come out and said that both sides of the Dolphins' locker room participated in behavior such as this. How do you know that Martin didn't also send messages similar to Incognito's? There are too many questions, and it's easy to make the assumption that Incognito is a blatant racist. If you believe that Incognito would genuinely treat his teammates poorly or that he's a racist, then there's no way that he would become one of the team's leaders. I support the NFL's right to ban Incognito or the Dolphins' right to cut him since its detrimental to their image. As for bullying, I don't care about that. The world isn't fair, and Martin doesn't have to play Incognito's games. These aren't children in middle school with no other option or recourse. |
