Meh.  Pete Rose should be judged based on what he did as a player.  I have no doubt there are quite a few guys in the HOF who did the same thing.  His punishment has been banishment from baseball for all these years.  If that banishment is ever lifted, and he can get in on his merits as a player, more power to him.  Do I think he belongs there?  Nope.  But, that doesn't mean he shouldn't at least get consideration if he's reinstated.

 

The interesting thing from that report is that it sounds like the new commissioner was probably not going to reinstate him, so it's a moot point.  His degenerate gambling habits will relegate him to the same outhouse as Shoeless Joe Jackson.

 

I honestly think that had he come forward when the allegations came out in the late 80's, odds are he would have been forgiven by now and probably would have gotten into the hall eventually.  His ego got the better of him.
