Had slavery not been an issue, the southern states would not have seceded. Among their grievances, slavery was the single non-negotiable point.
 

If the South seceded to preserve slavery, why did they turn down the North's offer to allow them to keep slavery if they would rejoin the union?  

 

It was about money... As most wars are.
