I admit I did not know what you were talking about at first. Yes, I worded it incorrectly, though I felt my point was obvious.

 

Without commenting on the effect on his policies, a black person must not be descended from African slaves to experience what it means to be an African-American, nor must both parents be African-American. If one parent is, a considerable number of people will consider that person to be black, and his life experience may well reflect it.
