BREAKING: Four U.S. Marines, Police Officer Shot In Chattanooga, Tennessee Attacks

Quote:This I'd be fine with. We should be doing a great deal of due diligence on people entering the country anyway, and a Muslim with ties to Iran seeking entrance to the country by way of Canada, or something like that, should be a red flag that merits much deeper investigation than, say, Bob Smith from England should.

What I am not in favor of doing is what Drifter wants: a complete ban on Muslims entering the country. True, no foreign national has the "right" to enter America, but if we start excluding an entire group of people based solely upon their religion, it sets a dangerous precedent that could be abused by future leaders, and it's just not the way we as Americans should be doing business.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that Senator Paul said nothing about religion alone being a factor. He focused on country of origin rather than religion specifically, although scrutiny of religion was implied.

Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez was here legally, and a naturalized citizen.

Nadir Soofi was here legally.

Elton Simpson was born in the U.S. and, of course, a citizen.

Nidal Halik Hasan was a U.S. citizen and a major in the U.S. Army.

Jose Padilla was a U.S. citizen.

Terry Lee Loewen was born in the U.S.

Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnev were here legally. Dzhokhar was a naturalized citizen, and Tamerian was a permanent resident.

My point is many of those committing terrorist acts on U.S. soil appear to have been radicalized either AFTER moving here, or were actually born in the U.S. The notion that we are in grave danger due to our porous borders seems to be an over simplification of the situation.
