I know coaches don't necessarily clamor for RBs with fumbleitis.  But I think it is a cost-benefit analysis.

 

Consider Hall of Fame RB Tony Dorsett, who played most of his career under Hall of Fame head coach Tom Landry.

 

He had three (3) seasons of double digit fumbles-1978, 1981, and 1984.

 

He had two other seasons of eight (8) or more fumbles.

 

He never had more than 374 touches (rushes and receptions) in a year.

I think if you are an otherwise great RB, coaches will live with some fumbles (albeit through clenched teeth, I'm sure).

 

The trick for Yeldon is to keep fumbling to a minimum and otherwise prove he is a great RB.

 

Sure it's about cost and benefit. If he's Adrian Peterson or Tony Dorsett and one of the great talents of his time then he'll be able to endure some fumbles, but from what I understand of Yeldon he's a bigger back that has good moves but doesn't have finishing speed. So while a lot of 7-10 yard runs will please the coaches, a lot of fumbles leading to points for the other team would likely outweigh that.
