I think the front office has a vision of what they want him to be for this team, and that's why he is still in the mix. Wasn't he being compared to Marshawn Lynch before the season started last year? Seriously?
They want him to be a big physical back that can plow through defenders for 4 yards per rush. Ain't gonna happen. We have an offensive line that still looks a little suspect and we need a back that can find the hole, make an adjustment if necessary, give a little juke, or beat 'em with speed. They want Toby to fit this offense. My guess is that it will become painfully obvious soon that it is time to shift gears on Gerhart, and only use him as a fullback or certain strategic situations. |
