The Great, Big Joeckel Thread (merged threads)

Quote:I still believe that all of Joeckel's problems involve technique specifically with hand placement. I feel that he will improve over the course of this season and become a much better player over time. Give Marrone a little more time to coach him up and if Marrone can't help him then the Jags can draft his replacement next year.
FWIW: Stigma is completely correct. Just to recap Luke's young career: Started at Right Tackle...not his natural position. Shifted to left tackle and was injured in his first game there...out for the season. Offseason rehabbing his leg...which prevented his working on the rest of his body, really. Next season, back from injury and basically lost his position coach (who was/is out with cancer). An assistant coach primarily (IMO) hired for his name really didn't do much with the entire line...working on a blocking scheme which wasn't the one that the team started with...I will admit that Linder disproves part of my theory there...but I suspect that Linder is an amazing athlete and will be strong at guard for the rest of his career (one of our first prow-bowlers from this group, I suspect). At any rate, a forced poor offseason and a lousy coaching staff made 2014 a lost one for Joekel...AND the entire OL, really.

Now, he comes  back bigger, stronger, after a reportedly good offseason working on his craft. He has one of the best OL coaches in the business working with him. I would hesitate to draw any conclusions from the scrimmage...it takes a while for the line to gel...but by all reports he is working hard and improving. Will he be the second coming of Boselli? Probably not. Will he be a serviceable or even good LOT? I suspect he will. A bit more patience is called for, but it is unfair to throw him on the garbage heap at this point of his career based on the above thoughts.

Just a broke-down old college OT...
