It's really not as far-fetched as it sounds; and we know that Bellichick is more than willing to get rid of star players (think back to Randy Moss in 2010 and Lawyer Milloy in 2003) if he thinks that he can replenish them with younger talent. If this were to happen, do you think that the Jags should make a run for Brady? Would a veteran as highly accomplished and experienced as Brady help develop Bortles along further?

 

 

These are very, very interesting questions.

 

 

  If I were in the Jags position,  I wouldn't make a run for Tom Brady under this scenario.   Three reasons for this:

 

 1)  The trade compensation for Tom Brady would be too high.   Even at his age.  

 

 2 )  The Jags have so much invested in Blake Bortles.   He needs to play as along as he's relatively healthy.   Next season,  providing there isn't a coaching change,  Bortles will be in the team's current Offensive System for a 2nd season.   While Bortles should improve this season,  next season is when I think Bortles should really make his move, at least towards the top 10-15 QB's in the league if he's the QB that Dave Caldwell envisioned when drafting him at # 3 last year.    Bortles is going to need starter's reps in the off-season practices and in training camp to truly grow as a QB.

 

 3 )  Tom Brady will have to adjust to the Jaguars system and coaches.    While Brady's practice and preparation habits are excellent and Bortles can benefit from seeing Brady up close in that respect,   Brady would be going through a transition himself.
