I didn't see any 'engage and shed moves' or anything to try to make a play.
I don't recall the play so I can't speak specifically on this situation.

 

Generally, the first defender to get there takes out the lead blocker and tries to plug the hole. He is supposed to stop the progress and allow someone else to clean up the play.
