Yes, but what if the Joeckel injury contingency is to move Parnell to the left side and start Pasztor at right tackle? If I had to, I'd peg the team's three best tackles as Parnell, Joeckel and Pasztor. If they keep four tackles (and I think doing so is the right idea), Wells is probably the fourth guy, but if they only keep three tackles and opt to hang on to an extra interior lineman like Shatley or a guy like Young who can play inside or out, Wells is probably the guy headed to the PS.

 

I agree with the notion that the Jags will keep nine offensive linemen, and if I had to peg it now, I'd say it would look like this:

 

Starters: Joeckel, Beadles, Bowanko, Linder, Parnell

Backups: Wells, Wizniewski, Cann, Pasztor

 

If they do keep nine, I really think that last spot will come down to whether they like Shatley enough to keep him and risk running with only three tackles, or whether they want to hang on to the fourth tackle in Wells and gamble on losing Shatley. My guess would be that the addition of Cann and continued development of Bowanko and Linder make Shatley expendable, and that if the team really liked Shatley enough for him to be assured a spot, they wouldn't have drafted Cann and added Wiz. If they keep ten, both make the team.

 

Of course, if Beadles loses his job to Wisniewski or Cann, he's a candidate to be cut. I know I floated Wiz as a possible cut earlier in this thread, and I could still see circumstances lining up in a way that he'd be outside looking in, but it's highly unlikely. I think the fate of Wells and Shatley is really tied to what happens with Beadles. Cann will make this team and Wizniewski almost certainly will, meaning that the two guaranteed backup spots on the interior are effectively filled. It just keeps coming down to whether they want a player whose sole job is to back up at left tackle, or if they still love Shatley's potential and are willing to use their starting right tackle as their backup at left to keep Shatley around.
