I just think it's silly to judge any player that is now in a pro camp based on his college production.


Will he instantly get better? No. But he didn't leave the college field yesterday either. If he was still a 63% kicker then I find it hard to believe the Jaguars would be wasting a camp spot on him, let alone give him time in preseason games. Certainly other kickers we've had in camp didn't get that opportunity.


Also he's at 75% right now with the Jaguars, with two attempts comings from 55+ yards. How it's not obvious he's had at least a little bit of development since college is beyond me.

He may have improved since college, but he doesn't have the body of work to prove he can be a consistant kicker in the NFL. Definitely not enough to show he is better than an established kicker with 55+ yard NFL game winners on his resume.

 

Teams bring in camp legs every year and a lot of it is just to have a strong leg to get enough reps in for all the guys practicing kick returns. They always allow them to get reps in games. You never know when you may need a kicker on your roster so it doesn't hurt to get a full evaluation of the player.
