Bring on Carolina. The real season is finally upon us
|
Quote:In North Carolina, folks tend to forget that they had a 3-8-1 start to the 14' season. Some also like to forget the fact that Dave Gettleman has brought in little to nothing on the offensive side which is what needed the most attention this offseason. I get it, people like Ted Gin but he sounded so much better with KB healthy. The Panthers defense is going to be tough but not unbeatable; Steelers, Ravens, Packers, Saints, Eagles, and Vikings fans would agree. I am excited about this matchup and feel the Jaguars will surprise and win. People in NC also realize that we had a disastrous OL, terrible CB's, one WR and a busted up Cam during that stretch. Here's what changed and lead to the turn around. Antoine Cason was so bad he was cut midseason and replaces, the other CB was benched. Both Josh Norman and Bene Benwikere played very well and caught the eye of the NFL and even PFF. DL struggled with a hobbled Charles Johnson and no Greg Hardy but others finally stepped up and CJ returned to form down the stretch. Our OT's last year were a joke and this is my biggest point of contention with the GM, however our LG was replaced midseason with Andrew Norwell, a UDFA from Ohio St and has been a monster. Paired with rookie Trai Turner this two really solidified the interior OL and allowed the run game to start moving again, thus the resurgence of Jonathan Stewart who was the second or third best RB in the league in the second half of the season. DeAngelo was just done. As for weapons for Cam, I kind of agree but I have to remember that was the salary cap DG inherited. He believes in playing elite D and controlling the clock, so that's been his priority, but he did draft a WR in the first round, drafted a OG in the 3rd, so ita not like he's just ignoring the problem. He's trying not to throw our very limited resources at names people recognize. That's the reason people here are so excited. My biggest concerns right now are filling KB's void and the OC, whom I have very little faith in. When they go no huddle and allow Cam to call his own plays we are a far more effective O. Will we play as well in 2015 as we finished 2014? Who knows, but with a completely healthy Cam and some exciting additions we are certainly optimistic.
