According to fans that have posted on many threads they stated that Allen Hurns production was based soley on his knowledge of the playbook from college under the same OC.  The media attention on him in week 1 was due to the lack of knowledge from the Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly on the undrafted rookie in game prep against the Jaguars.  As he probably was focusing more on the two 2nd round picks in WR Lee & Robinson as well as the veteran Shorts III.


According to the facts (stats) both WRs had 26 Receiving First Downs, both had one really long rec (Hurns 63 yards, Robinson's 54 yrds), both had close to the same Rec count (Hurns 51 to Robinson's 48), but Hurns had 16 extra throws (Targets) in his direction that were not caught (as both missed almost half of Bortles throws).  To be fair Hurns was double covered unlike Robinson on many of occasions, and knew he was taking a hard hit from the Safety in the process.  The average per catch for last season was Allen Hurns with 13.3 to Allen Robinson's 11.4 yards.  One big difference is Hurns had Six touchdowns to Robinson's two TDs.

 

Both WRs struggled with injuries last season, and hopefully both can remain healthy this year.

 

According to the media, and the Head Coach,  Allen Robinson is the better WR as shown on the Depth Chart history to date.  Allen Robinson is credited with better hands and ability to make a clutch catch, while many would view Allen Hurns as the faster more elusive deep threat (that many had hoped the Albino Tiger Lee would've been).

 

After watching last season I was all on the Allen Hurns bandwagon mainly because it was a good story of the underdog that worked his way up to the top, but he did struggle as a lot of rookies do as the season progressed. This year the media couldnt get enough of Allen Robinson in camp, but let's look at the PreSeason stats this year;

 

Allen Robinson had 7 catches for 103 yards an average of 14.7 no fumbles, and no TDs. (2 catches past 20 yards under 40) His best game being against the GIants with his 36 yard longest catch of the PreSeason.

 

Allen Hurns caught all 4 targets against the Lions and a touchdown until he exited with 'Hip Tightness' but he is expected to play against the Panthers this week.

 

The Jaguars will likely not have more than 2 WRs on the field in most occasions (which is good since Lee & Bryan Walters the 4th & 5th Wrs are both injured).  I expect that the ball might be thrown equally between Robinson, Lewis, Hurns, and Harbor (maybe he gets more since he seems to get open a lot if only he could catch them)!  I think Greene might get a few too.

Robinson saw zero targets inside the 15-yard line last season and just five red-zone looks all together. Both of those numbers were certain to increase even with Thomas in the lineup, but Robinson should become the focal point of the passing offense with Thomas on the shelf. Robinson averaged nine targets a game last season as a starter.

Maybe its simply perception or bias, you either like one guy or the other more for whatever reason but on paper & from watching the games they don't look that far off from each other.

To me its hard to compare because I think they are two different types of receivers.

 

If I am forced to chose, I'm going to have to go against everyone and remain with Hurns.  I just like watching that guy more I guess.
