What I think is wrong with Indianapolis:

 

Fell into the one-dimensional trap - Seems like the Upper Management there wanted to surround Luck with as many weapons as they could and didn't really think about armor or distraction. Frank Gore has all the respect I can give him, but he isn't a workhorse any longer. Andre Johnson has something to prove, sure but does he have the tools to prove it? The Offensive Line group is rotating players in and out of there on a frightening basis and it's starting to show up in games. There were a few plays last night that Luck made simply due to his size and how tough he is to bring down.

 

Injuries - Yes, yes injuries are never an excuse but you can't go into a game facing Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall down four DBs and expect success. They are being hit in a critical area right now and they may need help from outside the Organization.

 

Lack of creativity - I base this on the team hiring Pep Hamilton as their OC as it seems like they were trying to get the most our of Luck. It's not that I think Hamilton is not qualified to be an NFL OC, but I feel like someone on the staff needs to try and open up new ideas instead of simply what was done in the past. The thing about the NFL is that you had better keep adding on threats and wrinkles to your attack or people are going to figure you out. And it is starting to feel like teams have got Indianapolis figured out.

 

Poor talent acquisition - I covered this a little in the "one dimensional" statement above, but this is more along the lines of drafting and Free Agency over recent years. Now, I don't follow Indianapolis all that much, but I do know that the past Grigson First Round draft picks have been spent on Bjorn Woerner, Trent Richardson, and Phillip Dorsett. While it's unreasonable to expect Dorsett to produce this early in his career from his position, Richardson isn't in the League any longer and I can't remember when the last time I saw Woerner play.

 

Here's the thing though, they got Luck. They might have surrounded him with sub-par talent but they have a pretty good Quarterback off which to build and that's always a good place to start.
