From what I read, the Vikings were trying to cross train him at OG and Tyrus did not adjust well to moving inside.

 

The Vikings drafted three OTs in 2015, one from Pittsburgh in the 4th, one from Oklahoma in the 6th and one from Alabama in the 7th. The Vikings also drafted a tackle (Yankey) from Cal (I think) in the 2014 draft class.

 

A team can only keep so many OTs.

 

Also, Thompson suffered a concussion playing OG in the Vikings last preseason game, so he was placed on IR by the Vikings.

 

After he got out of the concussion protocol, the Vikings needed the practice squad space for some other position so they let Thompson walk.

 

The Jags signed him two days later.

 

If he does something for the Jags that would be great.

 

If he fails then the Jags have risked almost nothing other than one of ten practice squad positions.

 

I think the kid needs a lot of good coaching and he should get it here with Doug Marrone.

 

The Jags released an OT to sign Thompson to the practice squad.
