The team is going to be looking to sign 2 new QBs next year unless Gabbert somehow shows us something miraculous between now and the end of the season. 

 

If the trade still involves landing one of the QBs listed, plus a top 5 pick, I'd still support the premise of the scenario.  You'd have a veteran QB on the roster who is a proven entity.  You could still draft a QB who would then be allowed to learn the position behind the veteran.  That was actually the plan when Gabbert was drafted.  Unfortunately, Garrard's back made that situation a non-option.  When McCown floundered, the coaching staff panicked and threw Gabbert in long before he was ready, and it's been a series of missteps since then that have more than likely damaged his potential beyond repair.

 

We don't want to see that happen again.

 

Getting the proven veteran QB along with a draft prospect would be the best approach for this team.  It would take the pressure off of trying to develop the QB instantly to assume the starting role while providing us with a stable, moderately productive starter at the same time.
