We won the turnover battle, but squandered one opportunity and scored on the other. We also had a drive that put us in a position to win the game outright only to have the QB looking up when a mildly low snap slipped through his hands. We had a running game that was getting hammered in the backfield on just about every play, yet we were able to get a rookie his first 100 yard rushing game. We had a receiver who had a great day with receptions, over 100 yards receiving, and a touchdown. Yet, when it came time to have that clutch drive, they couldn't get it done. We had a big run by our rookie RB and followed that up with a run for a loss when Gerhart got on the field in a situation where we should have been throwing the ball instead of trying to run it again. We had a defense that did a great job of stopping the run all day long, but they handed the Colts a touchdown with more than 50 yards in penalties on one drive. We had a rookie starting at RG, an LT who was coming back from being out for a few weeks, and were short a slot receiver. We had 2 more DBs miss playing time during the game and lost our MLB to injury as well. We had boneheaded mistakes made on special teams where we got flagged for a gunner leaving the field of play on his own. The guy we drafted to be our pass rush specialist is standing on the sideline nursing an ACL. Our best defensive lineman is right there with him trying to come back from his own ACL injury. We're missing the free agent tight end who gives this offense an element we haven't had here in years, and the guy who is trying to fill that role now makes every catch look like a circus act, if he catches it at all. We had an offense that moved the ball effectively in the first half, but couldn't get the right call when they got down into scoring range. We've got a rookie kicker who missed 3 field goals (one with the timeout). We didn't rack up big points in the 2nd half against a team that has been giving up truckloads of points in the first 3 games of their season.


All of this means what?


It's not a good football team yet. My honest opinion about why we lost that game is that the team was beaten by another bad team that was a hair better when it mattered. This is a young team that is still trying to find an identity. The coaches are throwing everything they can at the wall hoping something will eventually stick. The players are inconsistent in their ability to play clean football. These are all signs of a young team that needs to pull it all together and learn how to win games they should win. There's not one single thing you can attribute this or any loss to in most of the games in recent history. Yesterday was a team loss from the coaches on down to the guys on special teams.
