General Manager Dave Caldwell on the hot seat with Gus?
|
So it seems like the question is, 'what has to take place before Gus is fired?' Is there a certain number of losses, or is it the fans turning on him, or perhaps the perception of lack of development from key players? I wonder if there is such a criteria that either Dave or Shad regards as the 'bottom line'?
I don't care for Gus's cheerleader style. There have been a few glitches in his use of challenges and time outs, but he was hired as a rookie HC, so that is to be expected. He was saddled with a very high percentage of rookies and no coach is going to look good right away under those circumstances. We all knew (or should've known) that it would take at least several years to get a team of essentially rookies up to speed. My point is this; of the people who were available at the time we needed a new HC it was regarded that Gus was the best option we had. There's no way any of us (including Dave Caldwell) can know the future and how things are going to turn out. Sometimes things work out... sometimes they don't. So what then is the final, fate sealing, criteria for dismissing Gus, if such a thing exists? |
