It is an old, old truism; you do not bite the hand that feeds you. Tony and Jeff are employed by the franchise, so what do you expect them to say? The Jags suck and Gus sucks even louder? It isn't going to happen folks. I remember listening to those guys defending Gene Smith on their Wednesday evening show before Gene got fired. It's what they are expected to do; they are (along with Johnny O) the franchise apologists. And you know what, since they were once part of a good Jaguars team, they have automatic credibility... at least, that's what the franchise is counting on.
But here's the thing... FACTS: the sun rises in the morning you're born, you pay taxes, you die ... and 8-29 is undeniably, incredibly, B A D! you can spend your whole life trying to deny it but with a record of 8-29, there can be only two possibilites; either your GM selected incredibly untalented players and should be fired, or your HC is incredibly not up to coaching in the NFL and he should be fired. actually, there is a third possibility... both of the earlier possibilities could be true and both the GM and head coach should be fired. I'm not a 'sport forum anarchist' who just wants to tear down the team just for the sake of causing misery. But as I view this teams performance so far this season and the statements made by the head coach (the team is built...) I don't have confidence that the end of season record is going to be better that what we've seen the last two years. We were told we should reasonably expect to see a better record this season; not a super bowl run, but a better end of season record. It ain't gonna happen people. We're now being told by Jeff Lageman that the team just needs more time. It was my understanding prior to the start of this season that Shad Khan had indicated that he was not going to tolerate another 4-12 season or worse. So... let the chips fall and lets see what happens. If things don't turn around drastically for this team (and I am refering to winning more games, not just more impressive statistics from individual players) I'll be waiting to see if at the end of the season if Khan drops the hammer. |
