Miller sucks. I chalked it up to injury last year, but this year he's just been terrible. His spot needs to be addressed in the offseason.

 

Skuta was brought in specifically because he'd been in a 3-4. The Otto's job is very similar to that of a 3-4 OLB. Again, Skuta is getting no help from the defensive line.

 

The defensive backs are playing some terrible football right now. All of them. McCray's absence from even the nickel set is insane. I don't know if he kicked the Bradleys' dog or something, but I just can't believe that he went from future star to worse than Gratz in one offseason.

 

Miller sucks?  I think that Jeff Lageman and Tony Boselli have both been pretty consistent in saying he has been pretty good against the run.  That's what i've seen.  The guy is a nose tackle, he's not going to light up the sack sheet.  

 

As for the defense, The OP is somewhat correct.  in the base 4 lineman there is one DPR in the LEO and the other three are positions that should make it hard to run against a defense in the base package so that you can get to your lighting package in third and long.  That's why in a system such as this an injury to a guy like fowler is pretty devestating.  Last year was probably the last good year left in Clem and Marks was able to generate another 8 sacks from the 3 technique and that was the engine that drove the sack production.  Right now you're not getting that.  

 

In a perfect world your Strongside end would be a guy like Mohamed Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson or Leonard Williams who can generate a lot of rush even though you don't play completely on the edge and you would have a healthy guy like Marks to get pressure from the inside.  

 

On this team, the problem right now Isn't exactly the scheme.  The problem right now is that we can only name one or two guys on the ROSTER who can win one on one in pass rush situations and no one is winning one on one consistently.  

 

As for reinventing the wheel, this is a hybrid system between the 4-3 and the 3-4.  So far that hybrid hasn't worked well because you don't have the Jamie Collins type hybrid players that are playing at an elite level.  This isn't just about rearanging the deck chairs.
