Chris Smith has been inactive because, while Andre Branch undeniably sucks, the coaching staff believes that Smith sucks even more. I saw nothing that led me to disagree.

Let's talk about Willie Young. He had ten sacks last year as a rotational pass-rushing end. That's pretty good. I'd take that. But let's look at the rest of his career:

 

2015: One sack through six games.

2013: 15 starts, 3 sacks

2012: No starts, no sacks

2011: No starts, 3 sacks

2010: Barely saw the field

 

So what we're doing here is getting excited about a one-year wonder. The only time he was counted on as a 16-game starter, he racked up a grand total of three sacks. Three.

 

Now let's talk about the reality of Willie Young. Willie is a 30-year-old backup tweener. Even if he does still have it in him to regain his 2014 form and pick up, say, six or seven sacks over the remainder of the year, he's not a long-term building block. As bad as the Jaguars are, the last thing we should be doing is trading away draft picks for band-aid veterans.

 

"But TJ, he's better than Andre Branch!"

 

Yeah? Well, so's my grandmother, but I wouldn't give up a draft pick for her either.
