I think you have to put that "built" comment into proper context and look at the ENTIRE quote.  Just because they're saying the team is built doesn't mean it's going to magically get better.  Gus was pretty clear that it's built, and now the players need to recognize that, buy into the process, and take that next step in their progression.  Being built and being better are not synonymous, and Gus/Dave never said they were. 

 

The defense is definitely struggling, but how much of that can be attributed to having zero pass rush, and how much of that can be tied to injuries?  It's not like they didn't focus on improving the pass rush this off season.  Unfortunately, they lost the guy they were putting a lot of expectation in to help in that regard to IR, and their best defensive lineman only got back on the field in a limited role last week.  We've also seen our secondary decimated by one injury after another, and we've had injuries to our LB corps as well.  It's been like a MASH unit for the defense this year.
