I think the struggle is balancing the life is precious philosophy with safety of the individuals (and the larger group as a whole.)

 

It's kind of getting like a biker gang.  You'll have to prove yourself as a hang around/prospect until you've earned your patch/colors.

Rick is inherently a good person. He was a cop, so he's used to protecting. The more you watch Rick turn into something that he really isn't, you sense his descent almost into madness. I feel he definitely struggles with the decisions he makes, unlike someone like Carol, who does it and kind of moves on. With all this said, I like the contrast between Rick doing what he needs to do but also seeming to struggle with these decisions. I don't necessarily want "farmer rick" back from the prison as I feels it make the group as a whole week.

 

The manner in which this show balances what a group of survivors would surely need to do and also show them going through the psychological fall out is pretty brilliant to me. They've handled it really well.
