If Bortles didn't play last year what would we think of him this year?

While the coaching staff didn't plan for him to see the field last year, it's probably the best thing that could have happened for Bortles.  His rookie year was rough, but we got an opportunity to see what kind of player he is based on how he responded to that rookie campaign.  He went back to California and focused much of his time on fixing the mechanical issues.  We're seeing the benefit of that experience and subsequent efforts to fix the issues he had last year.  Had he sat out his rookie year, we'd be seeing a much different, inexperienced Bortles, IMO.
More often than not, it's always better to play the young kids.

 

Which is why it was a dumb idea in the first place to play Henne. Did Blake really show that much of a drastic improvement after 2 weeks of the regular season? No.
