I mean it would be different if the NCAA punished someone taking an OTC more severely than someone taking illegal drugs; however, the NCAA does not discriminate based on the substance. If you fail a NCAA test for marijuana, you get suspended for a year. Smoke weed, take steroids, take a banned OTC it doesn't matter, you get suspended for a year.


Universities are another subject. The problem is that universities are heavily invested in its student-athletes; therefore, they are less likely to hand out punishments that meet the crime.
