It's neither illegal, nor against NFL rules, to have an alcoholic drink (or even be drunk) in your off-time, so long as you're not driving. It is however, illegal to run a rebate fraud scheme like the Browns' owner did a couple of years back, so it was fun to see Pettine consulted with Haslam on the subject.  

Actions have consequences whether it's legal or not. In this case like a previous poster stated, he was probably warned that if this happened again he would face the consequence of putting his ability to do his job second to his obvious addiction. When you're an addict or an alcoholic it doesn't affect you just in your off time. It affects everything you do all the time. Take it from the daughter of a recovering alcoholic. 

 

Whether Johnny's addiction is to alcohol or stupidity remains to be seen, but both seem to be an issue.
