I know some of you already have an idea who this might be, but before we name potential prospects, let us put our heads together in order to define the perfect OTTO for the Jaguars scheme.


What we know is that this is the OLB opposite the WILL that in a typical 4-3 would be the SAM LB. It's a similar role as a SAM, although it also involves coming up to the line on the TE side and blitzing more. An ideal OTTO takes on the TE both when pass rushing and in coverage, so he needs to have both size and athletic ability. You might say he's a mix between a 4-3 SAM and a 3-4 LOLB. Playing on the strong side also means he has a key role in run game and has to be an exceptional tackler. But moreover, what distinguishes the OTTO from a typical SAM is that he's said to be around the ball a lot becoming more of a playmaker (forced fumbles, etc). Basically, it's a position that has to do it all.
