Well...he is a master of understatement.

 

There's no point in mentioning that in spite of the ranting about how awful many fans regard Gus to be, he isn't going away soon unless Khan changes his mind, and I don't think that is likely. I know many of us have various reasons why Gus isn't more well liked. I don't like his 'ra-ra' leadership style, but that's me. What really does give me pause though is his choice of coaches to help him. Babbich (sp) and Olson just don't impress me as being very good. Then again, a coach can only do what can be done with the talent available to him. We have some talent on our defense, but we also have a glaring lack of talent there too. The same is true of our offense.

 

So, I think Dave Caldwell has his work cut out for him. At this point, it should be pretty apparent what the most pressing position needs are. I hope we're able to improve those spots this draft and fa. I think that no matter what, Gus and company are going to get at least one more season, that's just the way it is. But there is this... next season if we continue to underachieve it will unarguably be on the coaching. If we aren't seeing acceptable progress (and I define 'acceptable' by year four as having at least a .500 record or better) then change at the top is required. I would further say that depending on how things roll, it may not even be necessary to wait until the end of the season before effecting a change at the top.
