This team is relying on Bortles far too much
|
I'm seeing people saying they're "done" with Bortles and calling him a bust on here which is just crazy.
Blake is currently making an average of 39.5 passing attempts per game. Let's look at some previous Jaguars QBs and compare them with Blake: Blake Bortles is currently projected to throw for 4,293 passing yards with 32TD's and 18INT's. Mark Brunell's highest average passing attempts in a season was 34.8 in 1996 - Brunell had 4,367 yards with 19TD's and 20INT's. This was Brunell's fourth year in the league and his second as starter. Byron Leftwich had his highest attempts per game season in 2004 as a sophomore with 31.5. Leftwich threw for 2,941 yards with 15TD's and 10INT's across his 14 starts. David Garrard's career high season for attempts per game was in 2008 (his 7th year in the league) with 33.4. He threw for 3,620 yards with 15TD's and 10INT's. Brunell currently holds the Jaguars season record with 512 passing attempts in a season. Blake will break this record in game 13 of this season if he keeps throwing at current pace which is just ridiculous and will hit 632 on the season which would place his season at 19th in NFL history with only 8 QBs ahead of him (Matthew Stafford, Drew Bledsoe, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Warren Moon, Matt Ryan, Tony Romo and Tom Brady). Brady has only passed that mark once with 637 in 2012, Andrew Luck has never been asked to throw that much, neither has Roethlisberger and neither was Favre or many other QBs. This is a guy who just last season the coaching staff didn't think was NFL ready. Stop forcing him to throw the ball so much! We show less advertisements to registered users.
