To all you tankers...
|
Quote:Any accusations of the Jags tanking became unfounded after the win over the Texans, given how tight the race is for the #1 pick is, and that the Texans now have the same record as the Jags due to that Jags win... It all depends: A) The GM needs to have somebody graded as a legit #1 prospect, aka "worth tanking for". If Caldwell had his sights on, say, Bridgewater as that guy.... he had to: B) Gut the roster of any extra players that won't or shouldn't be part of our future, who might have given us a few more wins this year and get us out of the Bridgewater sweepstakes (Knighton, Cox, Smith) I believe he did a good job of doing that. We may not agree on every single veteran (M. Lewis etc), but ultimately it's Caldwell's call. I think he as the GM put us in perfect position to "tank" without sabotaging our coaching staff. He has literally given Bradley one of the worst rosters I've ever seen. If Bradley manages to get 4-5 wins out of this bunch, maybe that speaks volumes on how good of a coach and motivator he really is. Coach Bradley and the players are not thinking about next year, nor should they. They are on this team RIGHT now, but have no real long term ties to this franchise. Players get cut, traded, or simply not re-signed. -- I do want the 1st pick, I really do. I think our roster is so bad that we "deserve" it. But I think "tanking" and at the same time trying to improve and coach our players isn't compatible. Our GM has put this team on track to tank, and I think he made a good choice there. Bradley's job, on the other hand, is to coach and improve this team, which I also think he's doing. In a perfect world we would continue to improve and maybe even get a few more wins, as long as all the other bad teams ALSO win and we still get the #1 pick. Caldwell's tank job is succesfull, and Bradley's coaching job is also a success. It could still happen, and I would literally find this season to be damn near perfect. B) and C) Let it play out
