There are about 1.6 billion Muslims in the world.   That's why ISIS wants to sell this narrative of "Islam vs the Western world."   So they can have 1.6 billion allies.  

 

The Western world wants to sell the narrative of "Terrorists vs the Western world."   The West doesn't want to draw a line and put 1.6 billion people on the other side of it.   We can't win that war.   By saying he would ban all Muslims from entering this country, Trump plays right into the ISIS narrative that this is all about Islam vs the West.  

 

A large part of what attracts people to the United States is that we are a free and open society, that we have a Bill of Rights and religious freedom as part of that.   By banning all Muslims from entering this country, we make ourselves look like hypocrites.   We are no longer a beacon of hope, a "shining city on a hill" as Reagan used to say.   The Statue of Liberty says, "Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free."  Nope, sorry, we're closing the door.   All you people who had the dream of making it to the United States, the land of freedom and opportunity, you can't come in right now.  

 

By the way, Turkey is a majority Muslim nation and a NATO ally!   I wonder if the ban on Muslims will extend to the President of Turkey.  

 

Also by the way, for every one person who is killed by a terrorist, about a thousand people are killed in car wrecks.  

 

And thirdly, I would like to point out that Pakistan is a Muslim country that has nuclear weapons.  Do we want to draw this line in the sand and put Pakistan on the other side of it?
