Our division has been so bad that we can compete even at 5-8.

I wouldn't say we are ahead of expectations. I think we are right on track. 6 or 7 wins is pretty much what people expected. They also expected the Colts to win 11 games per usual.
^^very good post. I completely agree with your sentimemt. The team is obviously progressing nicely. But, there are still improvements needing made (in particular, consistency with offensive scoring and consistency with good defensive play).

The offense has taken a big step forward. For the past couple games they are playing/scoring nicely. But we haven't seen that throughout the season. There have been many games that they have struggled and not posted good scores. But it's looking much stronger and consistent the past few weeks.

Same thing with the defense. They strung a few good games together this year, but also looked completely lost in games too. Of course, more focus on acquiring talent will start happening on that side of the ball now. Just needs more consistency from game to game.

Realistically, teams would not be competing for division titles and playoff spots while sporting a 5-8 record. So, in normal circumstances the team is still a year or so of progress away from competing. The exciting thing to me is that it looks like this division is not going to get much better regarding the competition. Even with Luck at QB, the Jags look to be in a much better situation with the roster and a QB that can match or exceed what Luck does in INDY. The Jags should be in contention for this division for a good while with these core players.
