He wasn't trying to get extra yards. The ref could have easily thrown a flag here, but I like the no call. Appearances can be deceiving! I've seen Tom Brady do exactly this same move and then suddenly turn up field for an extra few yards. Football is often a game of inches, and an extra yard or two is a big deal. Hasselbeck could have done the same thing unless put out of bounds with authority. Tough luck that he got hurt as I'm sure that wasn't the intent of shoving him out of bounds; but if you're 40+years old and playing in the NFL and you try running down field and not sliding... you were asking for it. |
