There can be bad blood outside the division. You better believe Gruden wanted to crush Tampa, Fisher wants to beat Tennessee, and I want to beat Del Rio every time we play his team. Coaching rivalries are pretty common.

 

I never said there can't be rivalries outside the division. Of course there are and have been. My argument there was teams don't hate each other because of one person who was on both. Titans fans do not hate the Rams because of Jeff Fisher. There is no bad blood between the two teams. How bad Jeff Fisher wants to beat Tennessee is one thing; utter hatred for the Titans is a totally different animal. I guess you had a problem understanding the difference between individual and team rivalries.

 

The Seahawks/Packers "rivalry" started with the Fail Mary. It has absolutely nothing to do with who is coaching the teams, obviously. The Manning/Brady rivalry was totally individual - it was not Colts/Patriots, just Manning/Brady, and continued after Manning moved to Denver. (I think that one is over now because Brock Osweiler started the last episode.) And how can the Manning Bowl be a rivalry when it is about guys in the same family playing against each other? The media makes a big deal about it because of who the quarterbacks are.

 

Back to the Raiders, I think it is natural to compare their progress with ours because they began to vastly improve at the same time we did. I just don't see why that or JDR should make it a rivalry.
