Your boss hands you a massive project with lots of complicated, moving parts. The potential is there and everyone knows it, but you haven't quite figured out where all the pieces fit. For the first few weeks, you struggle, but then you start to show consistent improvement, and as you round third base, things start firing on all cylinders and things start clicking at a level that they haven't for years.

 

Now, at the end of that project, do you think your boss is going to congratulate you on a job well done given the end result, or is he going to fire you because it took you a few tries to get the thing figured out?

 

Likewise, if another company was interested in hiring you, do you think they'd pass you over because you struggled initially to get things going, or would they be more inclined to pursue you because of how well you were able to bring things together in the end?
