Gil Brandt has Ra'Shede Hageman listed in his latest Hot 100 seniors.

5. Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota (NR)

Hageman (6-6 3/4, 307) has an inspiring story, rising from a tough childhood to become one of the top defensive linemen in college football. As a youngster he moved from foster home to foster home before becoming one of the top tight ends in the country while in high school. Hageman's been playing nose tackle for the Golden Gophers, and is very athletic with an ability to bend for his height. He was not ranked in the season's first edition of the Hot 100 after compiling six sacks in 2012.

Then there's this which sounds a lot like everybody Gene Smith ever drafted in round one.

The executive told NFL Media reporter Albert Breer that Hageman can answer some major questions this week.

"[Hageman] is big, athletic -- he flashes top-10 talent," the executive said. "He's just inconsistent with his motor and his overall play style."

Hageman's versatility and athleticism make him an appealing prospect. He signed with Minnesota as one of the nation's top high school tight ends, and NFL teams think he can play tackle in a 4-3 set or end in a 3-4 scheme.

Here is a little more:

Senior DT Ra'Shede Hageman (6-6, 311) should be a first-round pick; he's extremely athletic for a man his size, holds up well against the run and provides an interior pass rush. His battles with the interior of the Wisconsin offensive line, particularly senior guard Ryan Groy (6-5, 320), should be entertaining. The Badgers also love to run, and they have better backs than the Gophers.

I watched this Wisconsin - Minnesota game on DVR specifically to view Hageman. I was surprised somewhat that he was not used as a three-down lineman despite the reputation for versatility. Not a solo stand-out, but possibly a piece of the puzzle in building the entire unit.

Still the idea of first round talent with the inconsistency tag equals just about every first round pick Gene Smith made here. This doesn't equate into a player of first round grade. Certainly not elite without close inspection at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.

I think he's going to be a terrific pro, but could he be a guy the coach has to drag out of bed? The storyline seemed to suggest he was a late bloomer than needed prodding by Jerry Kill. He needs to know this isn't the end of the line, it's only the start. He has to be self-motivated from now on.

The scouts notice him though. That's good for him because he is a very likable dude. I'm chilling on him for now, but will not be surprised if he attracts more scouting attention between now and the draft.
