The op has a very myopic view of getting pressure.

 

We are very bad at rushing the QB with our front four. Most of our sacks are the results of stunts and blitzing. When you have to use stunts and blitzes, you leave yourself vulnerable because you have to take people out of coverage or move linemen out of position. If you don't get home, you leave gaps in your coverage or open areas for screens at the LOS that can be exploited.

 

That is a big reason for why teams are able to gash our defense in clutch situations. It's been a pick your poison situation for the coaches all season.

 

If you don't stunt or blitz, the QB has time to pick the defense apart. If you do, the OC will design plays that attack the areas of the field you vacate.

 

It's a lose lose until you get better pressure with the front four.
